Objectives

The after-effects of communist dictatorships and their crimes are a painful legacy of the 20th century. Individual countries where communist regimes prevailed often struggle to come to terms with this inheritance satisfactorily. Communist dictatorships caused a huge number of victims, losses of a material and moral nature. Nevertheless, it remains difficult for many people to condemn these systems unequivocally and recognize their criminal nature. Public opinion on the subject often wavers between forgiveness of the crimes committed by communist systems and demands for a radical reckoning.

On the one hand, putting communist crimes before a court is sometimes difficult in practice and does not result in a verdict that satisfies the victims. On the other hand, these trials and the verdicts handed down by the courts often do not receive due attention from the public and scholars in all countries. Such problems exist in all countries that experienced communist dictatorships. The scope of this issue and its causes will be analyzed during the conference, which we invite you to attend.

Areas of research

The thematic scope of the conference " Communist Crimes in Court " includes three main areas of research
